We are delighted to introduce Roger Chapman FIEP who has joined the IEP Fellowship and will be our Guest Editor for Journal #16. This issue will launch on 25 February 2026 and centre around Human Intelligence – contrasting the last issue’s AI theme (stay tune for more info).
Since 1991, Roger has been working in the Employability Sector with a career spanning Training and Enterprise Councils, Business Link and the Growth Company.
“I am proud to work with the IEP developing leading Standards in Employability,” Roger said. “I have a deep commitment to enhancing the quality of information, advice, and guidance (IAG) delivered across the UK.”
Since January 2020, Roger has served as the Head of Service for the matrix Standard overseeing its management and leading 27 Assessors across the UK. His responsibilities require engagement with key stakeholders shaping the future of employability and careers policy, including the Department for Education (DfE), the Gatsby Foundation, and the Institute of Employability Professionals.
“I am here to ensure high levels of performance and satisfaction for the matrix Standard’s 1500 customers through robust QA Processes and effective management of Assessor Development,” he said.
“A significant piece of work I led on, with the support of IEP Group CEO Scott Parkin FIEP and Head of CfEE David Imber FIEP, was the comprehensive update and revision of the matrix Standard between January 2021 and May 2023.”
This critical project, designed to modernise the framework for IAG, involved:
- Commissioning research into Best Practice on Information Advice Guidance, which the IEP undertook
- Working closely with stakeholders, including the IEP, Gatsby Foundation, Ofsted, the National Careers Service, Customers and Assessors
- Drafting and piloting the updated Standard
- Reporting on the changes to the DfE and successfully Launching the 2023 Version
“In alignment with broader UK policy goals, I spearheaded the effort to ensure the matrix Standard aligned with other key areas, such as the IEPs own Quality Improvement Framework, Ofsted Inspection Framework and the Gatsby Benchmarks.”
“I look forward to continuing to work closely with the IEP to develop standards and share good practice, which will be increasing important in today’s evolving environment.”
